Contemporary American Playwrights

H80.2100   Lecture   4 Credits
Instructor(s): Greenfield

Looks at contemporary work by established writers, such as Sam Shepard, Lanford Wilson, David Mamet, John Guare, Terrence McNally, and Edward Albee, and by writers who have achieved recognition in the last decade, such as Christopher Durang, Tina Howe, Wendy Wasserstein, and August Wilson.

In some cases, the class compares early and recent plays in discussion (sometimes reading material that has not yet been either produced or published), and, in others, the class meets with the playwrights themselves. Required of graduate students; open to all students. Formerly H80.1009.
