
The undergraduate program in dramatic writing is academically and creatively demanding. Only applicants with demonstrated creative excellence and a record of academic achievement will be considered for admission.
Acceptance into the Department enrolls all students in the Division of Playwriting and the Division of Film and TV Writing. Students study in both divisions, concentrating in at least one medium as their studies advance.
In addition to submitting a completed application form, applicants must include a brief statement explaining what they expect to contribute to the program and what they expect to gain from it. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio of five to twenty-five pages of screenwrititng, playwriting, or fiction. No more than one short poem and no personal essays please. This material should be submitted directly to the Dramatic Writing Program, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, 721 Broadway, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10003-6807, Attn: Professor Charles Rubin, Supervisor of Undergraduate Admissions. Personal recommendations from English or drama teachers will be well regarded.
The program will undertake to return any portfolio material submitted by an applicant if it is submitted with a mailing envelope with return address and return postage, but we cannot assume any liability or responsibility for submitted materials that may be lost or damaged while in the program's possession.
Applications for the Tisch School of the Arts Dramatic Writing Program may be obtained from the NYU Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
