Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing Faculty Search - Tisch/Asia Campus in Singapore

The Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing will open a new branch in the TischAsia campus building in Singapore, teaching Graduate Students, beginning in the fall of 2008. We have been authorized to search to fill three Visiting Professors positions (Open Rank, non-tenure, 1-5 year contracts).

  • Playwriting
  • Screenwriting
  • Drama Lab Instructor

The Department seeks experienced teachers in writing for the stage and screen. Applicants must also have a substantial body of professional work. Our Visiting Professors will be expected not only to work in the classroom – a minimum of four courses per year - but also to maintain office hours for purposes of Student advisement and registration, as well as perform other administrative duties as might be required in their capacity as professors. A Goldberg professor may be called upon to serve on departmental or school-wide committees. Please note: We are also giving special preference to playwriting teachers with a proven ability to teach Text Analysis – courses researching the development of Greek, Elizabethan, Restoration and Modern Drama; an analytical look at Tragedy, Farce, Comedy and Melodrama from a writer’s point of view. Our screenwriter should be able to teach Film Script Analysis, looking at a motion picture from the standpoint of the screenplay – the decisions regarding theme, story, character, dialogue and the development of a dramatic situation made from the writer’s point of view; how he uses his tools to achieve results necessary to bringing a story to life for the other cinema professionals with whom he will be required to collaborate. We would prefer that our Visiting Professors continue working in their chosen professional fields while teaching.   If you are interested please apply with a cover letter and CV to David Ranghelli, either by e-mail at the e-mail address listed below, by regular post or by dropping off your materials at The Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing.
