Rita and Burton Goldberg Biographies

The Goldbergs

Rita Goldberg

Rita Goldberg is a mother of four, and a grandmother of six. Her career as an educational consultant for at-risk kids and their parents spanned more than 25 years.  She was a founding member of the national and regional Independent Educational Counseling Associations. After retiring, Rita became a benefactor for a variety of institutions. She endowed scholarships and research for the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center, serves on the boards of the Jewish Museum and the Westchester Arts Council, and most recently was elected as a member of the board of the Lark Theater Company. Along with her husband Burton, she has been endowing various programs at the Department of Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School of the Arts.  These programs include scholarships, playwriting prizes, master teacing classes, and other new programs.

Burton Goldberg

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Burton served for three years in the U.S. Army Air Force in the Southwest Pacific.  Upon his return, he completed his education and received his M.A. in English literature from Brooklyn College.  After many years working in the real estate industry, in 1955 Burton established his own real estate business, which became the Goldberg Group. He remains active in the firm. His English degree lead to a lifelong interest in the theater. His lifelong interest in poetry led him to become a member of the Academy of American Poets.  He sponsors an annual prize for the best poem written by a Brooklyn College Student.
